African American History Month

Picture
Antioch celebrates African American History, Past, Present and The determination of the younger generation to propel us into an ever more glorious future. We do not set aside the month of February as the only time for this recognition.
365 day a year, 24 hrs a day this is the reality for many of our members, therefore we give honor where it is due.
This month is a time of Sankofa, from the Adinkra language of West Africa. Sankofa is symbolized most often by  mythical bird whose feet face firmly forward while its head is looking behind it. This bird holds an egg in its mouth.  The literal translation means "Go fetch it" - Go back and get it. Translated the image honors the past, by authorizing us to look back into our past and to honor it.
The egg represents the good from that history and past which must be preserved and brought forward to be useful in our present conditions of life.
The firmly planted feet of the Sankofa indicate out path and direction is, as Dr. Kwame N. Krumah, former President of Ghana says of Africa, "Forward - Always Forward".

So too our path is forward - Forward in Faith, Forward in Hope and Forward in love!!!!

UBUNTU - I Am Because We Are!!!
John 13:34-35New International Version (NIV)

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
